Well, with Michael home and the school year rapidly coming to a close, the Tolleys have decided to undertake a new adventure. This time it is NOT on the high seas but instead we are headed inland, to explore our own United States of America!
A planned trip to Salt Lake City to visit family was nearly abandoned after seeing airfare rates skyrocket. Then in a parental blissful haze we said, "Maybe we should drive across country. We'd save some money and make it into a big adventure for us and the girls!" Then the reality set in. . .we'd actually have to DRIVE! ACROSS THE COUNTRY! AND BACK AGAIN!
However, the girls, still sweetly ignorant and always ready for adventure thought it would be a GREAT idea! They wanted to rack up some more "stars" on their US map hanging in our craft room. "We promise we won't fight!" they said. . .famous last words.
We decided on a compromise. An adventure this trip would be--just not all in a car. We've dubbed this trip: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: The Tolley Family Summer Adventure 2010. So, when the school year ends, and after dance recitals are over, we are going to pack our bags and head west. First on a train (Boston to Chicago), then in a car (Chicago to Salt Lake via the Badlands, Mount Rushmore, and Yellowstone National Park), and eventually fly home from Salt Lake after visiting as much family as possible and perhaps making a trip down to Lake Powell. With the new netbook in hand, we will update our family and friends along the way.
Stay tuned as we make preparations. . .
